Without wishing to be alarmist I would like to circulate the following
problem that has been reported by several people and the current issue of
PC Magazine.
Apparently Iomega Jaz and Zip drives have developed a tendancy to destroy
data on cartridges. The problem has been christened the "Click of Death"
after the clicking sound emanating from the read/write heads as they attempt
to access the disk. The consequence of which renders data permanently
inaccessible
While no fix is available, a web page describing this problem can be found at
http://grc.com. On this page is a small diagnostic program people can
download and run to test the drive and associated cartridges
Some people have labelled the above yet another scare story. Nevertheless
it is worth bearing in mind when using these drives. It just goes to show
how vunerable electronic information can be.
Yours sincerely,
Maureen Patch
