The Public Record Office (PRO) is the national archive of the United Kingdom
and in particular England and Wales. We are regarded as one of the leading
players in the world of archival automation and we are playing an increasing
role nationally and internationally.
We are currently working towards the provision of on-line access to our
finding aids and in the long term to scanned images of the documents. We
are currently seeking a Senior Archivist who will be responsible for the
following;
* data quality work on PRO electronic lists
* preparing catalogue entries as part of the planned on-line catalogue
* managing one of the automation projects
* participate in the planning & implementation of the automation
programme
To succeed you will need a qualification in archives or 3 years relevant
experience of archival work in an automated environment, experience of
cataloguing using IT and a systematic and logical approach to work.
Awareness of current IT developments relevant to archives would be a
distinct advantage.
