Assistant Archivist (Outreach)
Salary: ALC 1 - £15462-£17266
We are looking for an Assistant Archivist to complete the young and dynamic
management team in our newly restructured office. The successful
candidate will provide the Assistant Archivist (Business Collections)
with support in the provision of Outreach Services. You will take a
proactive role in encouraging use of the collections by academic,
enthusiast, business and other user communities. The postholder will
run the busy public service on a rotational basis with four other
Archivists and will be involved in training less experienced staff as
part of the Centre’s Graduate Traineeship Programme. The successful
candidate will:
· hold a recognised postgraduate qualification in Archives & Records
Management or be registered on the Society of Archivists Diploma
Course
· have experience of, and enthusiasm for, working with business
records
· possess a knowledge of Scottish history
· demonstrate a commitment to delivering quality services · show a
practical and flexible approach
· be computer literate and conversant with appropriate national and
international cataloguing standards
· have experience of the preparation and use of computerised finding
aids
· work well individually or as part of a team

RESPONSIBLE TO:

PURPOSE OF JOB:
To provide support in the management and promotion of the University
Collections
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
· promoting the collections to all possible user communities through
lectures, publications, exhibitions, conferences, seminars and any
other means
· editing the Centre’s Newsletter, Dunaskin News
·co-ordinating the Department’s historical methodology and sources
seminar series
· cataloguing unlisted collections and recataloguing
existing holdings to international standards
· managing the public searchroom and enquiry service on a rotational
basis (normally 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 weeks)
· assisting with the development and implementation of the Centre’s
Encoded Archival Description application of SGML
· managing a team of Technicians, Archives Assistants and Graduate
Trainees on a variety of preservation and listing projects
· organising training sessions for all staff on relevant topics
(particularly for the Graduate Trainee Programme)
· lecturing on archives to relevant groups· other duties as required
by the Director of Archive Services
OCCASIONAL DUTIES:
· attendance at University Committee and external committee meetings
· evening work
