colleagues
we have been approached by a charity working with visually impaired
people about carrying out an assessment (on a DHA wide basis) of the
needs of people with visual impairment. As part of this they (or
rather their funders!) want to get an estimate of the size of the
locally visually impaired population. We are giving some thought to
how this maybe achieved and wondered whether a variant of modelling
based on the 'capture recapture' method would be appropriate. I am
familiar with work done on this for drug using and sex worker
populations but not any others
1) do people think this would be a good way to do this
2) is anybody familiar with using this approach in populations other
than those noted above
we would also be interested in making contact with a statistician
familair with using these techniques
thanks
