Call for Papers for 1997 Albert Bates Lord Conference in Azerbaijan
The St. Petersburg organizing committee of the Albert Bates Lord
conference series is happy to announce that the Sixth International Albert
Bates Lord Conference will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, December 1-5,
1997. The theme of the conference, which will be jointly sponsored by the
Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkammer), and
the Institute of Literature of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, is
"Songs and the Song: Parry-Lord Theory Today". Papers are invited on all
aspects of oral composition theory. Contingent on funding, the collected
papers will be published. A highlight of this conference, characteristic
of previous Albert Lord conferences, will be encounters with
representatives of the local oral traditions.
Participants will responsible for their own travel and per diem expenses.
The local organizing committee will attempt to secure accommodations at
significantly reduced rates and to keep the registration fee as low as
possible. The actual amount of expenses will be announced as soon as it is
known. Travel to Baku is possible on several Western airlines. British
Airways and Lufthansa offer special economy rates in conjunction with
transatlantic flights to London or Frankfurt, respectively. Visas are
necessary for travel to Azerbaijan, and must be obtained through the
Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
