Lifelong learning: progress through partnerships
Thursday 21st May 1998, 09.30-16.30
Geoffrey Manton Building, Manchester Metropolitan University
The green paper issued by the Department for Education and Employment
presents a vision of wide access to learning. Learning Centres, equipped with
technology where people can access courses and materials will include public
libraries, schools and Colleges of Further Education, as well as less
traditional venues such as firms, shopping centres and football clubs. Whatever
the outcome of the consultation process, rapid changes in information and
communication technologies create an urgent need for librarians and information
workers to develop partnerships beyond their particular sector and area of
responsibility.
This day school will explore cross-sectoral initiatives through invited
speakers and practical hands-on resource discovery sessions. The intended
audience includes librarians and information workers in the public, school and
college sectors in particular, but will also be relevant to other interested
sectors. It is hoped that the provision of an opportunity to meet others and
discuss ways forward together will be valuable. Programme
