London

below.

Whether you have a personnel manager in your organisation or not, you
will no doubt find yourself, in the course of managing staff, involved
in many key areas of the personnel managers' function.

This day is designed to give you instant tips and best practice to help
provide a broader knowledge of staff management issues.

What can you learn in one day?

Quite a lot. It is a day full of practical advice and up to the minute
information on;
*	recruitment and selection
*	employment law and contracts
*	equal opportunities
*	discipline and grievance
*	performance management of staff.
*	the role of personnel management in general management

plus the opportunity to raise any queries you may have.

 PROGRAMME

Personnel management for non-personnel managers
Instant tips and best practice for managers

25 June 1997, LAHQ, London

Managers can no longer leave people management issues to personnel or
human resource managers - ignore them at your peril!

With the many changes happening in the library and information sector,
the European context and employment legislation, staff and managers need
to be more flexible and more aware of the complexity of managing people
in the 1990s and beyond.

This one day workshop is an introduction to personnel management
tailored for middle managers in the library and information services
sector with responsibility for managing people but who have not been
formally trained in personnel management issues.

How will this event help you?

You will be able to develop your skills and knowledge in four key areas:

*	recruitment and selection
*	employment law and contracts
*	equal opportunities
*	staff management

By the end of the workshop you will :

*	be able to build clear and consistent personnel procedures into
your management strategies
*	develop an understanding of the legal requirements of the
personnel function
*	gain an appreciation of equal opportunities issues
*	feel more confident in dealing with people management issues

Features : The focus of the workshop will be on instant tips and best
practice in the above areas. The programme will be as practical as
possible and will involve a mixture of teaching, group discussion and
small group work which would be balanced evenly between theory and
practice, including case studies.
