Hello,
my name is Martina Skok. I'm sociologist, I'm 27 and am a Ph.D. student
at the Faculty of Social Science of the University in Ljubljana,
Slovenia. When I finished my M.A. thesis, last february, about the
barriers to the trans-border connections (Case of Slovenia and
Italy) I already introduced myself in this mailbase. Since the
introduction was very successful (exchanges of materials, new friends
and presentations of my topic) I now turn again to this distinguished
audience.
The purpose of my intervention this time is to find as many as possible
ideas and references for my Ph.D. thesis. The topic of my research is
"dynamic of the connections across the iron curtain, waves and
spill-overs". I plan to study the dynamics through waves of
migrations, trade, political gestures and maybe some other waves. What I
specially lack is the famework for the analyses (and if possible
measurement) of the spill-overs or forward-linkages among different
fields of action (for example: between economy and politics or vice
versa, etc.). I do have some basic ideas and definitions from the
(early) works of Karl W. Deutsch (1954, 1988), E. B. Haas (1958, 1964),
Charles Pentland (1973), William Wallace (1990), but I do not know
anythig recent or more similar to my idea.
So, please, if any of you "out in the global mind" know any related
(recent) works or concepts, or if you have any other comments, I would
be glad to receive your message. By the way, at the time I live in
Ottawa (before I lived in Nova Gorica, Slovenia), Canada, and if any of
you know any points of reference located in Canada, I will particularly
appreciate it.
Greetings to all of you, specially to my (former) professors and to
other IBRU dear friends of mine, and looking forward to hear from you
soon.
Martina Skok
