for as long as the frontal lobes can manage it, will be brief &
contained in my excitations. Just back from trip to Clusone Trio gig in
Vancouver - thought perhaps Wolfgang Amadeus would have loved it while
Francis Albert might have had difficulty, but how would I know?
I wrote the word "canon" recently: I have difficulty with the idea but
think it perhaps important to wrestle with it for a while. If anyone
would like to engage that discussion backchannel, I'm here. My intent
would be to increase awareness in the young & their teachers of the
range of the possible ways of doing this thing, "poetry". How a person
might find in this patterning of words into variegated shapes, other
levels in her world, herself, that are worth attending to & sharing.
NOT A LIST OF GREAT WORKS WITHOUT WHICH YOU'RE NOT CIVILIZED (or, worse,
won't pass this course).
Closing with a question & an offer.
Is there anyone on the list familiar with 1st century BC Rome who can
tell me how much of Pascal Quignard's "Albucius" is historically
accurate? I'm finding it fascinating & am just curious how much is
Quignard's creation: he indicates where he is "making it up", but that
could be a device, of course.
On recent trip to Vancouver I found an extra copy of Peter Cole's "Rift"
from Station Hill Press. A reissue from Barrytown is rumoured, but if
anyone is keen to have this, drop me a line. First come etc.
Pete.
