EVOLUTIONARY BIOLOGIST
(POST-DOCTORAL SCIENTIST, BAND 6)
Applications are invited for a post to undertake the development of
theoretical approaches to address the short- and long-term scheduling
of nutrient and energy intake and expenditure in relation to life
history variables in domestic livestock and humans. The post holder
will be expected to use stochastic dynamic programming or
other mathematical techniques to examine the scheduling of
life history events and determine the relative importance of
physical, physiological and environmental constraints on the
relationship between food intake and fitness. The post will be based
at the Macaulay Land Use Research Institute's headquarters in
Aberdeen, UK and would include significant periods of time at the
University of Edinburgh.
Candidates should have a PhD in the Biological Sciences or
Mathematics. Experience in the development of mathematical models and
have a proven record of publication would be essential.
The post will be for 3 years in the first instance with a possible
subsequent extension.
Starting salary, depending upon qualifications and experience, will be
normally within the range stlg16,000 - stlg22,000 per annum (performance
related to a maximum of stlg24,900). There is a non-contributory
Superannuation Scheme and MLURI is an Equal Opportunities Employer.
MLURI receives funding from the Scottish Office Agriculture,
Environment and Fisheries Department.
The post is designated as fluid-graded (Band 6).
