The following advertisement will appear in New Scientist and THES later
this week. These posts were previously foreshadowed on Allstat: further
details and application forms are in the post today to those who contacted
me at that time.

TWO POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH POSTS IN STATISTICAL GENETICS
Two three-year posts are available to work on challenging statistical
problems in molecular genetics. The projects, both funded by BBSRC
grants, involve using computationally-intensive statistical methods to
investigate:
1/ Sequence alignment and phylogeny reconstruction, working with David
Balding and Mike Denham (Applied Statistics) and Peter Holland (Animal and
Microbial Sciences).
2/ Human X-chromosome mutation and recombination processes, working with
David Balding and John Whittaker (Applied Statistics). This project is in
collaboration with a team from the Division of Medical and Molecular
Genetics at UMDS (Guy's Hospital), London.
Candidates should have a PhD, preferably in statistics. Training in
genetics is not required, although a keen interest in understanding
the genetical processes underlying the statistical modelling is
essential. The successful applicant will join a lively research group
working on recent developments in both statistics and genetics.
Salary range: 15,159 -- 18,494 pounds. Closing date: 12/5/98.
