HEAD, DIVISION OF BIOSTATISTICS

The University of Minnesota School of Public Health seeks applicants and
nominees for the Head of the Division of Biostatistics. This is a fulltime
position with a tenured faculty rank of Full Professor. Salary is commensurate
with qualifications and experience.
The School of Public Health currently has 90 faculty, 350 students in its
degree programs, and $51 million in expenditures. The Division of Biostatistics
is a well-established unit and is one of five administrative divisions in the
School, including Environmental and Occupational Health, Epidemiology, Health
Management and Policy, and Health Services Research and Policy. The Division
of Biostatistics currently has 12 faculty who collaborate on research projects
in the areas of AIDS, pulmonary disease, cardiovascular disease, cancer
prevention and treatment, environmental and occupational health, and health
policy. Faculty methodological research includes clinical trials, analysis of
spatial and longitudinal data, Bayes and empirical Bayes, survival analysis,
generalized linear models and meta-analysis. The Division of Biostatistics
offers MPH, MS and PhD degrees in Biostatistics (35 students currently
enrolled). The Division also includes the Coordinating Centers for Biometric
Research and the Biostatistics Consulting Laboratory. Opportunities exist for
collaborative interactions with the University Comprehensive Cancer Center, the
School of Statistics, the General Clinical Research Center, and other Schools
in the Academic Health Center (Medical School, College of Veterinary Medicine,
School of Dentistry, College of Pharmacy, and School of Nursing). Additional

We seek candidates with strong leadership capabilities who can continue to
maintain the excellent record of achievements of the division. Requirements
include:
· an earned academic degree (PhD or DSc) in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a
closely related field.
· candidates must have demonstrated effective leadership or possess the
requisite experience in the following areas: 1) academic and/or research
administration, including human resources, finances, effective oral and written
communication skills, and participatory decision-making; 2) ongoing, high
quality research in health sciences; 3) development and evaluation of new
biostatistical procedures; 4) graduate level teaching and research advising of
students; and 5) commitment to cultural diversity.
