We currently publish all our examination results in the official University
journal (The Reporter) which is on sale to the general public. These take
the form of Class-Lists of each exam arranging students alphabetically by
class. We class all our exams rather than our Degrees.
The Reporter is now available on our web site. Some Class-Lists have
therefore already appeared on our web site. However it is not intended to
put the main bulk of this summer's results on for this year due to
technical difficulties. Before proceeding with this project I informally
asked for the views of the Office of the Data Protection Registrar and
whether they thought this was permissible. Their initial reaction was that
we would have to get the students' permission before doing it. Obviously
it would be impractical to do this and to remove any names of students
objecting to their name appearing on the web as it would appear that they
had failed the exam and the list would be incomplete. I intend to take the
matter up with ODPR in a more formal way.
Have any other institutions published their results on their web site and,
if so, have you encountered any problems?
Please reply to me direct on [log in to unmask] rather than the list.
Many thanks
