Forgive me if others have sussed this one before me, but does anyone
have any firm guidance on how existing EU students, who are currently
self-funding, will be treated for the purposes of tuition fees, if they
apply for the first time for an award in 1998/9? My query relates
specifically to a group of students who have been following the first
part of their University programme in an EU country, and will be coming
to the UK for the first time in 1998/9 to complete their studies.
We have assumed from all the literature to date that the overarching
definition of existing students as 'those who are already on a course
of higher education' will cover them, and that the local LEA will assess
them as though they are existing EU students. However, the DfEE
documentation targeted specifically to EU students appears to assume
that any students coming to the UK for the first time in 1998/9 will be
treated as 'new'......(or am I being too picky?).
Any words of wisdom would be gratefully received
