40th Anniversary Conference, University of Sheffield, 8-11th July 1998
WHO OWNS WINS - A CRITICAL ISSUE FOR THE INFORMATION PROFESSION
Authors, publishers, aggregators and information professionals are at
loggerheads over the issues of licensing and identifying content. Even the
new DOI Foundation has caused a rift between the owners and users of
information.
At its 40th Anniversary Conference in July 1998, the Institute of
Information Scientists will have key players from all sides of the debate
to argue and maybe clarify these issues.
Arnoud de Kemp, Director of Business Development for Springer Verlag and
member of the IIC Technical Committee and Sally Morris, Director Copyright
and Licensing for John Wiley & Sons will give the publisher viewpoint.
The authors are represented by Chris Zielinski of the Authors' Licensing
and Collecting Society. Laurie Kaye of the Simkins Partnership provides the
legal framework, while Elspeth Scott of Glaxo Wellcome and Hazel Woodward
of Loughborough University provide the user input. Technical issues will
be covered by Mark Bide of Mark Bide Associates, a leading authority on DOI
and Martyn Daniels, Director of Strategic Development at Vista Computer
Systems.
Anyone who wants to keep up to date with the current issues affecting
information professionals in all sectors needs to be at this conference
from 8th to 11th July.
Further presentations at this informative conference include:
* Knowing what we know - knowledge management
* It's there but where? - archiving electronic publications
* Across the way - what can the academic and corporate community share?
* Plus a choice of three personal development workshops
