ROYAL SCOTTISH GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY LIBRARY, AT THE
UNIVERSITY OF STRATHCLYDE , ANDERSONIAN LIBRARY, GLASGOW


The library of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society was deposited four
years ago in the University of Strathclyde. Accommodated now in a
dedicated reading room and repository in the Andersonian Library, under
the custodianship of the University Librarian at Strathclyde, the RSGS
Library continues to exist as an important resource for scholars in
several disciplines, including Geography, Scottish Topography and
Scottish Local History. Access to the collection is made available to
bona fide scholars on application through the University Librarian.

The RSGS Library is effectively maintained by donations and exchanges,
arranged primarily by the Royal Scottish Geographical Society. A prime
strength of the library is a collection of fairly extensive backruns of
geographical periodicals in both English and foreign languages. The RSGS
Library Advisory Committee, which represents the continuing interest of
the Society as well as of the University, would like to fill, where
possible, retrospective gaps in the periodicals collections, in order to
augment the value of the library as an ongoing resource for scholarship
in general.

It has been suggested that other libraries may have duplicates of
periodical issues, which they may be willing to donate to fill gaps in
the RSGS Library. If this is so, we should be glad to hear from any
potential holding libraries which would be willing to donate surplus
issues to enhance the usefulness of this important and long-established
resource for Geographical scholarship in Scotland and in the United
Kingdom more widely.

All offers, detailing available volumes/issues that may fill any of these
gaps, should be sent to The Acting Librarian, University of Strathclyde,
Andersonian Library, Curran Building, 101 St James' Road, Glasgow, G4
0NS, who will collate offers. Where offers of periodicals for
incorporation in the RSGS Library are accepted, postage costs
will be refunded, when direct collection of donated material is impractical.
