What an outdated idea, insisting on academic qualifications
only for a post holder !! Surely Mr Drake has a better idea
of how to test a potential employee, there are for example,
National Vocational Qualifications, at different levels,
which are competence based qualifications. These
qualifications test the ability of the person to complete a
set of defined tasks, to a set level of competence. At a
very basic level they test the use of english, and the
abilty to set out work in an orderly way. Bill Forser is
right to say that other countries are keen to access
competence over academic success, Australia is now becoming
even more willing to accept these qualifications.
I would also like to say I echo the words of Christine
Stevenson in her message.
If Mr Drake woold care to look at the Library Association
web pages he will find a lot of information that he needs
there, try http://www.la-hq.org.uk/
