As I started all this I'll make a few quick comments. I work in publishing and
I am looking into setting up a new imprint, god knows why, as time is more
important to me than money, but I'm as foolish as the next poet. I do not
intend a new imprint to be in competition with Ken Edwards' valuable work, but
rather to augment it, and Brtish and Irish poetry as a whole. I'm always
willing to help anyone's attempts to produce, but with skills rather than
hard-earned wonga.
I am _not_ currently interested in subscription publishing, your incredibly
generous donations would be better spent buying books rather than paying to
produce them, and if I start an imprint that is exactly what I would hope you
would all feel compelled to do. I am extremely pleased that so many of us are
so willing to dig into our depleted pockets to fork out for another Other;
thank you to everyone for their generous spirit. Skills, resources and
structure are more important to me at this stage, so I need your grey matter
more than I need to empty your coffers, starve your children, or leave your
garretts unheated! :-)
Some of you have contacted me backchannel, which is where I would like to
conduct the discussion for the moment. Thank you to those who have already
provided decent advice and offers of collaboration. I am a cautious man, so I
am afraid I may not pursue the idea if I don't believe I can (modestly)
succeed at it.
Money is of course vitally important as everyone has acknowledged and I have
as little as anybody else, but we'll see if we can persuade someone somewhere
to offer assistance for a modest enterprise with big ideas.
Best
