Queen's University started using Syllabus+ Exam Schedular
back in November 1996.
It takes 3 days to prepare and load the data into the software,
5 days to compile a provisional timetable, 2 days to finalise and
3 days to produce all the reports. Students receive personalised
timetables by post, which includes exam seat numbers, therefore
reports have to be customised outside syllabus+, using Excel.
We feel the mechanism for producing reports from
the software could be improved. We have put a number of
suggestions forward for consideration.
The majority of students got a "2-day gap" between each of
their examinations (May/June examinations 98').
1000 modules were scheduled, comprising 13,000 students
over two and a half weeks. Number of venues used = 12.
Seating capacity in any one session = 2,000. Two sessions
per day (9.30 and 2.30 starts).
The system is "standalone" at present; a slight disadvantage.
I believe developments are under way to rectify this.
Queen's will be beta testing subsequent versions of the software from
July '98. We will be pushing the "direct link" mechanism (Ingres) and
modification of the reporting tool.
I hope this helps.
