This announcement is particularly relevant to staff in Scottish Higher
Education. It would be much appreciated if you could let other people
know about
these events - so feel free to pass on this information.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Scotland already has the infrastructure (Dearing) to support the use of
communication & information technologies (C&IT) in teaching and
learning.
TALiSMAN (Teaching and Learning in Scottish Metropolitan Area Networks)
is
running a series of half-day awareness events which demonstrate how
these
facilities are currently being used by staff in Scottish Higher
Education to
support T&L. These events are topical and provide a non-technical
introduction
to staff who are (or should be) considering using C&IT.
The events exploit the MAN Video Conferencing service to bring in a
remote
presentation on the use of video conferencing in T&L, and to transmit
the event
to a small audience at a remote site.
The target audience is staff new to C&IT, not the experienced
practitioner. The
event is free to staff from SHEFC funded institutions, other delegates
are
welcome, but will be charged a nominal fee of œ50.
Dates and venues are:
Heriot-Watt University on 16 December, 1997
University of Aberdeen on 9 January, 1998
University of Glasgow, 24 May 1997
University of Dundee, 22 May 1997
An outline programme is appended and full details of these events are
available
at http://www.talisman.hw.ac.uk/. Electronic and paper publicity
materials are
available if required
