My main interests are in English and Italian Renaissance literatures. I have just
started my second year of postgraduate research at the University of York. I'm
studying English heroic romance (Spenser and Sidney). That means that I'm also
looking at the Italian romances (particularly Ariosto, but also Boiardo, Pulci, Tasso.) I
am particularly concerned with ideas of chivalry and honour, and of vernacular poetry.
Apart from my research, I am more generally interested in the Italian renaissance -
painting, sculpture, architecture - and in Italian music, especially the operas of
Monteverdi.
Oh, I would like to take this opportunity to ask a first, and very basic, question. Can
anyone recommend Italian courses in Italy? My spoken Italian is enthusiastic rather
than confident, and I would like to know if anyone on the list can recommend intensive
residential courses. Because of my research on Ariosto, I would be especially
interested in places in or near Ferrara - but I would still like to hear any other
recommendations.
Thanks,
Zoe
