If you are setting up a mailing list for a DC WG, *please* make it an
archived list. The quantity of WGs and of mail means that very few of us
(if any) have the space to retain old mail. With an archived list, we can
go back and browse through earlier messages and can insert into our
postings links to earlier messages. New joiners to a list can review what
has been said by others before contributing to the debate.
If you don't have the facilities to set up an archived list, you may wish
to consider whether <http://www.mailbase.ac.uk> would be appropriate. The
Mailbase Policy Statement is at <http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/docs/policy.html>.
The criteria listed include:
- The list should primarily benefit the UK higher education and research
community
- The principal list owner should have an 'ac.uk' style email address
- There should be a significant percentage of list members with 'ac.uk'
addresses
I think that all the DC WG lists satisfy the first and third points. As
regards the second point, I imagine that all the DC WG lists include an
'ac.uk' member who would be willing to be the principal list owner.
Note: The 1,801 (!) discussion lists hosted at Mailbase include
dc-subelements and dc-datamodel.
