Hospitals in Medieval and Early Modern Europe: Function and Form.
Saturday 8th November 1997, 9.30a.m.-6p.m. at the Courtauld Institute of
Art, Somerset House, Strand, London, U.K.
This conference brings together a variety of historians, art and
architectural historians to examine the history of hospitals in Northern
Europe and Italy from the medieval period to the 17th century. The papers
will consider the design, decoration, function and operation of hospitals
from a range of perspectives. The aim of the conference is to encourage
interdisciplinary debate in an important area of research which has seen a
growing interest in the past few decades.
The conference is supported by the Courtauld Institute of Art and the
Wellcome Trust. It is held in association with The International Network
for the History of Hospitals. There is a conference fee of œ pounds and
50p and pre-registration is preferred.
