Jussi,
I am intrigued by your message. Certainly the friars always are treated
as urban, and there is an old saw about Dominicans loving big cities;
but were the cities isolated from the country when a popular preacher was
in town? "Preaching barns," like S. Domenico in Perugia could contain
large numbers; and I recall seeing an outdoor pulpit set into a corner
on the outside of the Franciscan church in Viterbo.
Perhaps a conference session on who were the people in the preacher's
audience might be fruitful.
