I am trying to edit a "peperit" charm presented as a periapt
for a woman in labour. The mailing on today’s saint prompts me
to ask the list for help.
"For womman that got of chyld bynd to here wombe + maria peperit
praepositum(?) + anna mariam + elizabet johannem + cecilia remingium
+ sator arepo + tenet + opera + rotas ...... & sche schal haue
chyld withoutyn trawayle"
The problem is that if "cecilia remingium" refers to today's
St. Remigius, his mother was surely Cylinia, not Cecilia, and
it is not easy to explain the substitution by the normal processes
of scribal error (remingium for remigium is, of course, easy to
explain).
Has any one come across a text erroneously naming Cecilia as his
mother?
