Hey, a debate almost as useful and worthwhile as the Mac vs PC one .
. . but . .
I found the Pretext site very easy to read, well designed and easy
to surf through. The site uses principles of good text design (such
as having columns of text approx 50-65 characters long depending on
your font settings so it's easy for your eyes to scan the page) and
just because you may have a monitor 1024x768 doesn't mean you have
to use it!
Most academic sites don't have a leg to stand on when talking about
good design, and when I say good web design - I don't mean visual, I
mean communications design. We have as much to learn from commercial
sites as they do from us.
Like you, I look at web sites referenced in sig files of e-mails
people send to this list. I'm glad we feel confident to criticise
*Wired design* of other sites and have our own URLs on public
display . . .
Regards
Ian
