Online Information Systems Developer
3 year fixed-term appointment
Salary: UK pounds 19,740 - 24,919 pa inclusive
The British Library of Political & Economic Science is assembling a
small project team to implement two major online information systems
projects, HEADLINE and DECOMATE II, funded respectively by the eLib
programme of the HEFCE Joint Information Systems Committee and the
European Telematics for Libraries programme, which will commence in
January 1998 and involve collaboration with partners in the UK and
Europe.
We are looking for an IT/IS professional with interest and experience
in one or more of the following software application areas:
Bibliographic databases and metadata, Academic administration, Secure
Web-based information services, Online document delivery. Previous
involvement in an eLib technical development project would be an
advantage.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to
work with a minimum of supervision after training, to participate
fully in the design stages of the projects, and to develop, test and
implement software and databases within the constraints of agreed
design specifications and project timetables.
Decisions about the technologies to be used are not yet all finalised,
but skills in: Perl, Java, C++, SQL, Z39.50 and Unix or Microsoft NT
Server systems administration are all likely to be relevant.
