This is being discussed right now on the RDF Syntax list. I take the view
that XML namespaces should be used for schemes, just as they will be used
for elements. XML namespaces use the ":" like so:
<?namespace href="http://purl.org/DublinCore/RDFschema" as="DC"?>
...
<DC:Creator>Lowe, Annette</DC:Creator>
to indicate that the definition of "Creator" may be found at:
<http://purl.org/DublinCore/RDFschema>
We cannot use a ":" in names, other than for this purpose. I suggest we
replace each space and colon in a scheme name with a "-", like so:
RFC-1766
ISO-8601
and then choose suitable Namespaces, maybe:
IETF:RFC-1766
ISO:ISO-639
NISO:Z39.50
LC:LCSH
AAT:POR
W3C:ISO-8601 <-- Indicating the ISO 8601 profile on the W3C site -->
I would very much welcome a discussion on this.
Please help me with "AAT:POR" - I have this jotted down on a scrap of paper
from Helsinki. What is the customary way of referring to the various AAT
schemes?
