It would be good to record, on the DC Web site, the conventions we agreed
a while ago on this list for sub-element naming and the use of case. This
would help people adhere to them when creating metadata. Indeed, the DC
Web site itself would then be more likely to adhere to the conventions and
use "DC.date.created", not "DC.date.creation"!
1. Sub-element naming (normative):
Sub-elements indicating a past event should use the past tense,
eg "DC.date.created".
Sub-elements indicating a future event should use the present
tense, eg "DC.date.expires".
2. Use of case (informative):
For increased readability:
- the name "DC" should be written in upper case letters,
- element names should be written in lower case letters,
- single-word sub-element names should be written in lower case
letters,
- multi-word sub-element names should be written in lower case
letters, except for the first letter of the second (and third,
etc) word, which should be written in upper case letters.
Examples are:
DC.creator
DC.coverage.x
DC.coverage.periodName
