An Academic Network to Theorise LEADER
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
At a meeting during the 17th Congress of the European Society of Rural
Sociology in Crete last month, a number of researchers (geography, social
anthropology, sociology) expressed support for the creation of a network of
academics with an actual, or potential, interest in the EU LEADER rural
development programme.
Briefly, the aims of this network will be: to explore theoretical
approaches that go beyond, and yet could be used to inform, empirical
studies and 'evaluations'; to encourage collaborative research activity
within thematic subgroups to be suggested by the members of the network.
Initially, the network will take the form of a mailbase discussion group,
but we intend to supplement this with occasional workshops, etc.
In Crete, some 28 individuals expressed an interest. Some are actively
involved in research into LEADER, some expect to become involved, but there
are a number of others with a more general interest in the LEADER style of
development programme. They represent EU countries, Eastern Europe and
Canada. We hope the network will be as inclusive as possible, with an ethos
that encourages participation.
If you would like to be included in the network, please let me have you
email address. (nb. Later on, I'll be setting up a parallel system for
those without email access).
Thanks
