Videoconferencing - Getting Started
Organised by
JTAP
and the
United Kingdom Education and Research Networking Association (UKERNA)
20 November 1997
Royal Geographical Society
(with The Institute of British Geographers)
The use of videoconferencing in higher education is growing, mainly
due to the fact that it is an application that has enormous potential in
education and training and is becoming established as an educational
technology for the advancement of teaching and learning.
Videoconferencing is also set to play an increasingly important role
in the expansion not only of intra-UK activities but also of European
and international educational delivery roles.
Many academic staff now need to know how videoconferencing may work
effectively for them and seek advice on the basics of planning,
developing and implementing a videoconferencing service.
Aims of the Event
=================
This event is intended to provide information for those who would like to
learn more about the use of videoconferencing in higher education
and get basic guidance on how to get started. It will provide an
opportunity for participants to gain an overview of the main
videoconferencing systems and equipment that are currently available
and their potential usage in teaching and learning. Drawing on actual
user experiences, this one day seminar will explore the potential of
videoconferencing and provide a practical and informative guide to
the selection of an appropriate system to meet requirements.
There will be an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with
those who have been involved in the development and implementation of
videoconferencing services. An exhibition will also be held in which a
selection of videoconferencing products will be available for display and
demonstration.
Who Should Attend?
==================
The day is aimed at UK Universities, Colleges and Research bodies. It
would be of interest to teaching staff, administrators, technical and
research staff who are interested in starting to use
videoconferencing for teaching and learning and also to those who
have been charged with implementing videoconferencing within their
institution.
