Three concurrent exhibition

to enhance digital content creativity

</fontfamily></bigger><fontfamily><param>細明朝体</param>

We send sincere greetings and best wishes to all of you.

<bigger>"NICOGRAPH'97"</bigger> and<bigger> "MULTIMEDIA'97"</bigger>
will be held for 3 days under the united title of "Digitalmedia World",
during November 26 (Wednesday) to 28 (Friday) at Japan Convention
Center (Makuhari Messe), Makuhari, Chiba. This year's conference will
be joined by

<bigger>"DIGITAL CONTENTS FESTIVAL'97"</bigger>, a multimedia content
title trade show sponsored by Association of Multimedia
Developers(AMD).

Subsequently, this year's event is titled "Digitalmedia World ‾
<bigger>NICOGRAPH'97 / MULTIMEDIA'97 & DIGITAL CONTENTS FESTIVAL'97".

</bigger>As challenges with the advent of the full-scale multimedia
society, some point out short supply of effective contents for
industries and in our every day lives.

To conquer these challenges and generate more attractive contents, we
should acquire sophisticated image representation abilities and
expression means, well organized systems for content production and
application, and to establish a proficient content market (especially
around Asia).

By concurrently holding <bigger>NICOGRAPH'97, MULTIMEDIA'97</bigger>,
and <bigger>DIGITAL CONTENTS FESTIVAL'97</bigger>, the event will be a
unique and world prominent showcasing the actual life cycle of digital
contents by introducing the forefront CG and digital content creation
environments, leading digital information porting systems/means,
establishing contents market.

The event will surely enhance creativity of digital content title
creators, artists, programmers, system engineers in Japan as well as in
Asia/Pacific regions, and motivate information specialists who
collaboratively engage in work-design-production in firms, promote
digital market related businesses in consequence.

May all press reporters understand the aims and scopes of these
conferences and support us by publicizing the event to promote digital
content industry in Japan.

Respectfully yours,

</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Bookman_Old_Style_Bold</param><bigger>Constructing
digital contents market

<bigger>DIGITAL CONTENTS FESTIVAL'97</bigger>

</bigger></fontfamily><fontfamily><param>細明朝体</param>

This is the place where works will be exhibited according to
success-prone subjects in content industry, as "Stories", "Characters",
"Representation method", "Presentation", "Topics".

You will find personal networks with Japanese and foreign distributors,
buyers, and production partners needed for new business development,
scout talents, and more.

In constructing the base for developing contents in beneficial
multimedia society, the market that mediates reliable producers and
constant consumers had not been distinct particularly in Japan in
comparison to the game or motion picture title supply market. Current
digital content titles take role as tools for "art", "entertainment",
"next-generation education", and may generate new markets when
expression and communication means diversify improving work environment
and applications. Around USA, Europe,Australia and new comers in Asian
countries as Singapore are hurrying to furnish business sites for
digital content titles. Buyers and content title creators are attracted
to these areas leaving Japan in uncertain situations. Human, material,
and money resources must be concentrated to build a digital content
title market, the keywords for that may be "to create originality", "to
concentrate leading technologies", and "worldwide distribution for the
end-products".

Primarily, the aim should be to construct a site that effectively
circulates human-material-money fluently providing Japanese content
title information. Followings may the points to accomplish it:

・ Increase opportunities to introduce prominent works of digital
contents title creators

・ Enhance contents title trade shows

・ Concentrate Japanese digital contents title industries, and gain
recognition to represent Asia

     (encourage overseas exhibition)

・ Create and spread content-featuring events

・ Fortify network based content titles

We are enthused about working for these purposes.

</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Bookman_Old_Style_Bold</param>Acquiring
state-of-the-art representation capability and media<bigger>

"NICOGRAPH'97"

</bigger></fontfamily><fontfamily><param>細明朝体</param>Essential
factor in acquiring sophisticated representation capability and media
is to construct digital image production environment centered around 3D
CG. Digital images, provide easy-to-understand visual media, require
advanced technologies, ample production time and money to produce
realistic expression and motion.

Development efforts by related academic institutions and industries
have allowed realistic image to be displayed in real time on graphic
supercomputers or workstations. Wide spreading high end PCs also help
to economize cost of higher quality image productions. CG as a
technology element, a driving force for better digital content
creation, have been improved and utilized in industries in CAD/CAM, CAE
area, scientific computing and medical scientific visualization field,
special effects to enrich motion pictures and television programs,
attraction film productions for computer games and amusement
facilities, as well as graphics production for business presentation
purposes. Along with lowering CG production cost on account of PC
popularization as mentioned above and progress in non-linear editing
technologies, CG as tools have been widely accepted in Japan to produce
cell animation movies and comic rooted in Japanese culture. Such market
even has gained recognition as a promising one. To share image
information with digital format is essential in the course of enhancing
information networking. Subsequently, the world of digital image
productions and applications will face drastic changes. Accumulated
image representation capability must be portable to/from networksas
accurately as possible. Moreover, plural engineers must be able to work
rapidly, collaboratively and concurrently in networked production
environments, or may ultimately build virtual reality sites. The event
can offer much more.

"NICOGRAPH CG FILM SHOW'97", a traditional film show, will introduce
world prominent CG animators' works. It is intended to introduce the
top rated CG works to younger creators in enhancing their creativity
and elevate technology levels. Talented persons whose works have been
qualified to this film show may have chance to be scouted or even be
given business opportunities.

</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Bookman_Old_Style_Bold</param>Forefront
application and production/communication trends related to digital
contents

<bigger>"MULTIMEDA'97"</bigger></fontfamily><fontfamily><param>細明朝体</param>

Viewing the twenty-first century, variety of digital media such as
Internet, digital satellite broadcasting, DVD, etc. have been
implemented in actual use. Also, the next-generation networking, as
optical fibers, broad bandwidth ISDN, and so on, are stepping forward
for implementation. In a short period of time, large volume contents
will be translated to users rapidly. Before this time, construction of
environment is urgently needed to allow porting of higher quality
contents rapidly and cost effectively, yet easy-to-use for users.

Attractive and cost effective digital information production and
communication environment must be organized along with it. Multimedia
challenge, by interactive technique, formulation of information
communication that was not possible in the past. As networking
technologies advance to deal 3D information, total solutions offered
by venders and technical innovation draw attentions.

Successively developing multimedia technologies are utilized in
consumer-centric network as shopping malls, shop floor applications,
digital broadcasting, in business world for presentation tools, tools
that support concurrent engineering, and in education and culture.
Digital content should be clearly defined for usage by taking
next-generation production and living environment in count.

Considering all these, this year's MULTIMEDIA exhibition will be
intended to assist system formulation in actual application of digital
contents in business scenes or in living, manufacturing and other
industries by introducing digital content production technologies,
digital material generation image compressing, digital information
authoring of media, and the latest multimedia applications/solutions.
