STAFF NEWS FROM DE MONTFORT UNIVERSITY

Mel Collier leaves to take up the post of Director of Strategic and
Operational Planning with Dawson Holdings PLC on 18th August 1997.
This move coincides with a general review of the University structure
in which the fifteen schools have been reorganised into six
faculties. Other major initiatives to be taken into account include
the Virtual University Development and merger of administrative
computing with other IT services.
We are pleased to announce that Carol Saunders has been appointed as
Director of Learning Resources with effect from 1st September 1997.
She will be responsible for the Division of Learning Development
which includes libraries, educational and media development and staff
development. Carol is a social scientist who has worked in teacher
education and professional development. She moves to the Division
from Humanities, where she has been Acting Head of School. Carol has
been involved in the University's modular developments since 1991 and
her current research focuses on student management of academic
discourse within a modular framework. She will be focusing on
repackaging learning materials in the changing context of HE.
The International Institute of Electronic Library Research (IIELR) is
a free standing Institute within this Division reporting to Carol.
Roy Adams has been appointed Director of Information Systems and
Services responsible for IT infrastructure and administrative
computing.
Charles Oppenheim is now Director of the International Institute for
Electronic Library Research following the decision of Marilyn Deegan
to return to a post in Oxford.
Roy Adams' appointment leaves a vacancy for Head of Library Services
and an announcement about the appointment will be made as soon as it
is known.
