This is the sort of area which the forthcoming hybrid library projects
should be exploring... the integration of (some of) the vast array of
separate and incompatible services currently available to present a
uniform service to the library user. There're some interesting ideas in
the pipeline...

One of the problems is that many licences I have seen grant very
restrictive rights, and distance students can often fall out of these
rights. This is particularly likely to be true of students based overseas,
where the publisher may not have the rights to license access to them.
