1. INFORMATION ASSISTANT:
Applications are invited for the post of Information Assistant on a Social Science
Thesaurus Project in The Data Archive.
The person appointed will be responsible for searching and editing The Data Archive’s
existing online Social Science thesaurus (HASSET), using computerised methods of
information retrieval, data entry and validation, in order to incorporate extra terms
(supplied by co-operating centres over the Internet) within the existing structure.
Candidates must have excellent language skills including an understanding of a broad
range of social science terminology, familiarity with the use of computers in
information retrieval, thorough understanding of the structure and use of
thesauri in information retrieval.
Appointment to this post will be for a period of seven months at an appropriate
point on the Administrative/Library/Computer scale,
Grade 1, £15,159 to £16,927 per annum.

2. PROJECT LEADER :
Applications are invited for the post of Project Leader on the Social Science
Thesaurus Project in The Data Archive. This Project aims to expand the existing
thesaurus to become a tool which can be used for information management and
retrieval by social science organisations other than The Data Archive.
The person appointed will be responsible for the day to day management of the work
the Information Assistant and the Programmer working on the Project, liaison with the co-operating centres, delivery of the aims of the Project within the timescale.
Candidates must have good management and organisational skills and experience,
familiarity with the use of computers in information retrieval, a good understanding
of the structure and use of thesauri in information retrieval.
Appointment to this post will be for a period of seven months with a possible
extension of a further 2 years on the Administrative/Library/Computer Scale Grade 3,
£23,691 to £27,985.

3. PROGRAMMER :
Applications are invited for the post of Programmer on the Social Science Thesaurus
Project at The Data Archive.
The person appointed will be responsible for programming to provide a Web interface
to enable remote subscribers to provide suggestions for extra terms to be added to
an existing social science thesaurus (HASSET).
Candidates must have a degree in computer science, information science
or a social science, HTML, C, or C++ programming skills.
Appointment to this post for a period of seven months at an appropriate
point on the Administrative/Library/Computer scale,
Grade 1, £15,159 to £16,927 per annum.
