Sorry for releasing what seemed to be a red-herring here folks.
That was not my intention, and I believe there is still a useful
idea here.
I realised that the BibTex list was close to Jon's list, and
certainly agree that even for print-media the BibText list is
neither complete nor unique. I was actually holding off typing
in the BibTex list for y'all pending assembling the EndNote
and ProCite equivalents to put alongside (still not available,
sorry). For resources closely related to print-media types,
however, my feeling is that we should seriously consider the
value of making sure that the sub-types of DOCUMENT are
maximally compatible with such prior type-sets
[- of course the "BlahThesis" and "InBlah" categories should
be modernised in accordance with hierarchical principles!].
However, my more serious point was to encourage our Resource Types
discussion along the lines of identifying and re-using existing
"standards" for particular classes of resources, not just of
the print-media flavour. This will
(i) save us work and ensure that we use well-tested type-sets
(ii) maximise our ability to capture existing collections
using the new syntax.
In an earlier posting which sank without a trace (I shouldn't
have changed the "Subject" field, I guess) I also raised
what I think is a related question about mechanisms
for doing the translations between DC and other formats.
If I am not mistaken, if XML/SGML were used for encoding,
then this should be manageable with generic tools using DSSSL?
Or am I really chasing herrings up the wrong tree??
