Someone told me some years ago* that the use of 'Z' in word endings of
this type is correct UK English usage, and was in fact the preferred
spelling until comparatively recently.
Apparently there is even a 'Preservation of the Z' society, whose
mission is to restore the Z to it's rightful place in the endings of
words in UK English!
