I agree that these are a distinct document type.
'Press release' is not generally used in the industry. 'Media statement'
is used. Since the advent of other forms of media (TV etc), 'media' is
preferred. 'Release' while sometimes used to describe these documents,
only referred to those documents that had an embargo to deny 'release'
until a particular time.
On-line statements are now included in the definition of 'media
statement'
