A suggestion for this following category, is, in my mind, long overdue.
Especially in these times of multimedia, hypertext, and non-linear
creations, how can we ignore hypermedia? Because of its nature, hypermedia
both falls under many categories: software (hypermedia stories are often
distribute as "games" on CD-ROM), document (ie,
document.manuscript.hypertextual). However, I feel that it would be more
appropriate to create a subcategory "hypermedia" under the category
"Environment."
The hypermedia category could *only* be used for content pieces which obey
the following conditions:
* they contain varied forms of media (if they do not, then they go under
their
respective categories, perhaps with hypertextual, as in
document.manuscript.journal.hypertextual).
* they contain links *within* the content (apart from navigation), and are
generally non-linear in form
Note that this would apply *only* to the hypermedia creation in its
entirety. Individual content peices (normal text, animations, movies,
sounds) within this creation, if categorized, would fall under various
resource types, with perhaps the exception of specific content which could
*only* be described as hypertextual. In these cases, the author could use
the x-[whatever] option, under the environment.hypermedia category. For
example:
environment.hypermedia.x-hyperpoem
The hypermedia category suggests yet another subcategory:
environment.hypermedia.map --a visual layout of the links/content of the
work
which is often used by authors as an index of the work
