CAMILE - Concerted Action on Management Information for Libraries in Europe
CAMILE aims to promote and spread the combined results of four existing
European Commission Libraries projects, in the area of Decision Support
Systems, to potential user groups across Europe.
MINSTREL - Management Information Software Tool - Research in Libraries

DECIDE - Decision Support Models: a Decision Support System for European
Academic and Public Libraries, Project Director: Rob Davies, Carpenter

DECIMAL - Decision-making in Libraries: decision research for the
development of integrated library systems, Project Director: Tony Oulton,
Dept. Library and Information Studies, Manchester Metropolitan University,
UK
The Workshop will involve discussion of the four principal themes identified
by the projects:
1. The Information -
- Aims and objectives and the ability to measure progress against those aims
- The role of standards and benchmarking in performance measurement
- The costs and benefits of performance measurement
- Data quality
2. Decision Making -
- Different approaches to making decisions in organisations
- Procedures, authority and assigning responsibilities
- Feeding measurement into decision making
- Types of decision related to information used
3. Impact and Take-up of Library Services
- Measuring impacts on and value to users and other stakeholders
- Market penetration and market segmentation
- User expectations and user perceptions
- Demonstrating the value of libraries within organisations and to the wider
community
4. Future Challenges
- What measures are appropriate for the electronic library?
- Where does responsibility lie when services may be delivered direct to the
user?
- How can performance measurement help librarians choose which type of
service/product to provide?
There is no charge for this Workshop.
The Workshop will be held on Friday 27 June 1997 in Room RD1, Floor D, The
Reynold Building, UMIST, Manchester.
