I've worked in both public and academic libraries, and I've ceased to be
surprised at the amount of useful additional material library users find
simply through browsing. I've found the same myself when scanning
journals, for example. To say only one person will use a book is making
an assumption that is hard to justify. Also, just because a date label
doesn't have a date stamp on it doesn't mean the book has not been used.
