It seems an excellent opportunity to promote the 'eLib corpus'
particularly as, with a little development here, we could be in a position
to provide a prototype service based on a 'Dublin Core aware' eLib search
engine. It seems to me important that we empasise that we are not
primarily trying to improve the effectiveness of the big internet search
engines, but to provide focussed services for access to useful resources.
At the What is Metadata? seminar on June 18 see
http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/events/metadata/
we hope to be able to suggest some simple, immediately doable scenarios
in terms of use and collection of metadata. The eLib outputs would
obviously be one of these, others might be such things as embedding
metadata and providing search facility to university prospectus material.
We would hope that other suggestions would come forward from the audience
on the day.
