Dear crit-forumers,
At the risk both of increasing the forum's move towards an adverting
supplement, and of increasing the casualisation of British academic
geography, I include the details of a part-time post to cover one of our 2nd
year courses. As Academic Co-ordinator (ie the fool who volunteered to run
the undergraduate programme at Royal Holloway). The course as currently
taught covers issues of geography and class, race, gender and representation,
and uses twentieth-century London as an organising focus. However, the
course specification is quite flexible and there is scope for a range of
approaches and teaching styles. I've tried to make the post as un-casual as
possible: we're offering a training course on teaching in higher education,
and I'll be responsible for the formal administration of the course. It
would be particularly suited to fourth year PhDs in the SE of England looking
for both money and CV entries. All the teaching takes place on one day a
week between October and Christmas.
I have already spoken to a couple of people, but if you are interested please
contact me at Royal Holloway (01784 443653 or email). I'm away from the
department from 24th June to 15th July.
*************
The Department of Geography is looking for a lecturer to teach a second year
foundation-level course (approximately 20 one hour lectures + 12 one hour
support seminars) in Social and Cultural Geography. We welcome applications
from lecturers at any stage of their careers, including those currently
finishing their Ph.Ds. The chosen lecturer will be eligible for the Royal
Holloway, University of London staff training programme, including an
intensive 3 day introductory course on lecturing skills in September.
It is anticipated that teaching will take place on one day per week during
the autumn term of 1997. The payment for the course will be at least #900
(the exact amount depends on the number of students enrolling on the course).
For further details please contact the Academic Co-ordinator, Dr David
Gilbert, on 01784 443563 or [log in to unmask], or write enclosing a brief
CV.
