at the
Annual Conference of the Royal Geographical Society/Institute of
British Geographers (Kingston University, London), 5th-8th January

THE BODY
Is the body dead? Has it been 'done'? This joint session seeks to explore
current and future critical, geographical perspectives on 'The Body', as a
discourse, as a centre for conflict, consensus, rebellion or domination.
Particpants are encouraged to consider ways in which their own
bodies can be used to em-body their presentations. All/any form(s) of
(re-)'presentation' are welcomed
Contributions would be particularly welcomed (with open arms), but may
not be confined to, the following themes-:
i) Reproduction - Men, women and pregnancy. Contraception. Infertility.
New reproductive technologies.
ii) The body through the life course with particular reference to ageing,
the social construction of the 'elderly', attitudes to illness,
disease and death.
iii) Illness, morbidity and health attitudes to the body and
health screening (e.g. for various cancers)
iv) 'any-' and 'every-' bodies - sexualised, racialised, decaying,
abused, pierced, contorted, human, animal, alien, new,
