=========================================
Wednesday, 30th April 1997
Manchester Computing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Internet is becoming increasingly important in higher education.
It is now an essential medium for accessing, delivering and exchanging
information. Resources are now available that provide a number of
opportunities for teaching and learning in HE, for example:
collaborative tools; question and answer mechanisms; easily accessible
teaching programs and distance learning modules.
Netskills will be running a workshop on using the Internet for HE
Teaching on Wednesday 30th April 1997 from 9.30 a.m. until 4.45 p.m.
at Manchester Computing.
The workshop will comprise presentations, demonstrations and hands-on
sessions with opportunities for discussion. Participants will receive
a workbook which will contain workshop exercises, presentation slides
and other printed materials. The workshop aims to introduce and
explore some of the tools and techniques for teaching using the
Internet and provide training in authoring basic World Wide Web pages.
Topics covered will include:
* online tutorial courses
* distance learning
* searching for teaching-related information
* subject gateways
* email, discussion lists
* newsgroups
* videoconferencing
* HTML authoring techniques
* creating active web pages
* introduction to Java and Active-X
The cost of the workshop is 45 pounds for participants from higher
education (Netskills is funded by the Higher Education Funding
Councils). If you are not from a higher education institution please
contact Netskills for details of the cost of the workshop. Costs
include lunch, tea/coffee and all workshop materials.
