EEVL is very pleased to announce the availability of
RAM (Resources in Manufacturing) on the EEVL server.
Here is the press release:
NET RESOURCE FOR MANUFACTURING: Launch date 19th March
A free searchable database of Manufacturing information
is available from today on the Internet through The Edinburgh
Engineering Virtual Library (EEVL) at
http://www.eevl.ac.uk/
The service, Recent Advances in Manufacturing (RAM) is a
unique value-added bibliographic database. RAM brings together the
engineering and management aspects of manufacturing, and forms a
one-stop, time-saving, easy-to-use guide to the very latest developments
in manufacturing. It also provides a valuable archive of
manufacturing information.
Based on the RAM Service from the Nottingham Trent University's
Library and Information Services (available as a paper monthly
bulletin (RAMB) and/or as a PC-based (RAM-PC) or
CD-ROM-based (RAM-CD) database from 1990 to date)
the new Web service is a trial consisting of 1996 (July to December)
and 1997 data and will be updated regularly throughout 1997.
RAM provides coverage of articles and news items taken from over 500
niche and mainstream journals, magazines, books, videos,
and conference proceedings. Topics include everything from robotics
and manufacturing systems to strategy and total quality.
RAM Manager Jim Corlett said "RAM is a highly valued service within
the manufacturing sector, amongst academics and manufacturers, and I am
delighted that it will now be available over the Internet."
RAM is being launched today, 19th March, at a Business Link Information
Specialists meeting at the PERA (Production Engineering Research Association)
Technology Centre, Melton Mowbray.
EEVL, the UK gateway to engineering information on the Internet,
is funded through the Electronic Library Programme (eLib),
managed by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) on
behalf of the Higher Education Funding Councils. The EEVL Project
lead sites are Heriot-Watt University Library and the Institute for Computer
Based Learning, and partner sites are the University of Edinburgh,
Napier University, Cambridge University, Imperial College of
Science, Technology and Medicine, the Nottingham Trent University,
and the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE).
