You sure this guy was from Sun? What exactly did he mean by this? That the
current implementations have security holes, or that their fundamental approach
is never going to work?

Java is a programming language - hence the applications are here already. They
just need to be rewritten in Java to then automatically become portable and
usable by just everyone, rather than some proprietry platform. Thats the
theory anyway!
