I agree. If we're building an digital / virtual library we should also be
building a virtual community. Mailbase is part of that and, as Jon says,
his archives of the ROADS list will also provide a useful record of
decisions and debates. But we should be doing more than this.

As well as the potential for video conferencing there is also much
potential for web conferencing. With the current generation of tools you
can now do things that are not possible using email lists - for example
in a conference posting you can embed a Web page, java applet etc.
This seems to be a useful way of reviewing Web services and applications.
I am currently testing a Web conferencing system. It has potential for
the dissemination mentioned in this thread. Would anyone be interested
in testing it? Ideally I would like some relevent materials, such as
Powerpoint slides, to load into the conference.
