Dear Alastair,
I do not know if my original message carried (my 'sent-mail' says not),
so I reply again to your posting. There are e-text editions of St
Augustine on the CETEDOC CD-ROM of Brepols's Corpus Christianorum database
and on the Chadwyck-Healy version of Migne's Patrologia. The first costs
several thousands of dollars, the second, tens of thousands of dollars.
(These are commercially produced but there may be www products as well.)
Informed opinion says that the CETEDOC search engine is superior (and the
texts are more reliable) but C-H's edition is more comprehensive. If there
is much need for access to patristic sources at your university, your
library should be asked to acquire at least the CETEDOC CD.
Best wishes,
Martin
