This workshop sounds fascinating. However I am very surprised that none of
the locations for workshops is outside England. Surely the England is only
one of the participants (funders of) in JISC. JISC represents the entire HE
community. You have missed Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. (Even the
distribution of sites within England is odd.) Could I offer the University
of Glasgow as a venue for Scotland workshop. I am certain that you would
find others willing to make similar offers for Wales or NI.

>We are about to hold a series of free workshops reporting on
>progress in the "On Demand Publishing in the Humanities" project,
>funded by JISC as part of the eLib programme, and carried out by
>Liverpool John Moores University. The aim of the project is to
>create a "cheap and cheerful" WWW-based model for networking texts
>in an academic environment. Our intention is to create an approach
>which is simple for financially hard-pressed libraries to copy and
>which does not entail investment in expensive software or hardware.
>
>The aim of the workshop is to pass on some of the experience gained
>from the project by:
>
>* Demonstrating the materials so far developed, and
>providing hands-on access to them
>
>* Discussing the difficulties encountered in the project
>and some of the solutions found
>
>* Exploring the reactions of end-users to the materials
>
>The workshop is aimed primarily at non-technical library
>staff - subject librarians, reference librarians, and managers who
>are interested in providing networked access to texts but do not
>wish to luxuriate in technical detail. The modular structure of the
>event will, however, provide an opportunity for the technically
>minded to discuss matters of common interest.
>
>The workshops will take place at the following four venues:
>
>Liverpool John Moores University 10th March 1997
>Leeds Metropolitan University 4th April 1997
>University College London (CHEELD) 2nd May 1997
>Oxford University, CTI Textual Studies 19 June 1997
